Welcome to WashingMachines.net
The modern washing machine is a marvel of function, combining soaking, cleaning, rinsing, a digital timer and finally a spinning mechanism to wring most of the water from the clean wet laundry. In many countries, the most commonly sold washing machines continue to perform the washing function first -- you then move the wet laundry into a separate spinning basket to perform the extraction. Machines that perform both functions are called automatic washers.
Washing machines are typically loaded from the top (top-loading) or the front (front-loading). Top-loading washers generally require less maintenance than front-loading washers; but the front-loading washers generally require less water to clean a load of clothes. Although top-loaders generally have shorter cleaning cycles, they use more electricity than front-loaders. For more information, see our article on how to buy a washing machine.
