General Electric is a North American company that produces a large number of home appliances, including many
models of front and top loading washing machines. Their washing machines range in retail price from around $400
to over $1400. They are also available in colors such as vermillion red, champagne, and silver metallic.
General Electric's History
General Electric traces its history back to 1890, when inventor and businessman Thomas Edison established the
Edison General Electric Company. In 1892, the young company combined with its competitor, the Thomas-Houston
Company to form the General Electric Company. This early expansion was a precursor to many future expansions for
GE, including the manufacturing of aircraft parts and plastics. In 2008, General Electrics estimated its cash
flow at over 19 billion dollars.
Special Features of General Electric Washing Machines
General Electric washing machines have a number of special features. The high-end Profile™ line is
distinctive in several ways. First, the machines store and dispense up to six months worth of detergent. They
also have two steam features which are intended to reduce wrinkling, odors, and stains. Like many other General
Electric washers, Profile washers are Energy Star® qualified.
